The most difficult decisions rarely arrive neatly packaged

At the senior-most levels, the difficult questions are rarely technical. They are often human. Should I keep this person in the role? Is my leadership team really aligned or are we just being polite? Do I need to change direction, even though the strategy looked right six months ago? Why am I feeling resistance to a decision I cannot logically explain? Is the organization ready for what I believe comes next? What am I not seeing? What am I avoiding? These are not questions that necessarily require more information. Sometimes they require more space. Space to slow down. Space to examine what is beneath the obvious issue. Space to distinguish facts from assumptions. Space to hear your own thinking. And sometimes, space to say the thing that has not yet been said out loud.
